Trauma isn’t always a single event. It can be a moment — or a long stretch of time — when your sense of safety, dignity, or trust was taken from you. It might involve physical danger, but it can also be emotional harm: betrayal, neglect, humiliation, abandonment. What matters most isn’t what happened “on paper,” but how it lives in your mind and body now.
At Tailwinds, we create a safe, validating space for clients to process trauma at their own pace. We know how much strength it takes to reach out. And we honor that strength with care that’s evidence-based, culturally aware, and deeply human.
Trauma is any experience that overwhelms your ability to cope. While many people associate trauma with events like assault, combat, or accidents, it also includes:
Childhood abuse or neglect
Domestic violence or coercive control
Racism, homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of systemic trauma
Medical trauma or birth trauma
Bullying, harassment, or emotional abuse
Sudden loss of a loved one
Repeated invalidation, abandonment, or unmet emotional needs
Many people who experience trauma blame themselves or try to “just move on.” But trauma doesn’t work like that. Left unaddressed, it can lead to symptoms of post-traumatic stress, and make everyday life feel like a battleground.
Trauma can also show up in the body — chronic pain, fatigue, GI distress — or be misdiagnosed as anxiety, depression, or ADHD. At Tailwinds, we look at the whole picture.
Trauma-informed care at Tailwinds means we move at your pace. You don’t have to tell your story all at once in order to heal. We center consent, collaboration, and safety in every session.
We draw on a variety of evidence-based modalities to support trauma recovery, including:
a powerful method that helps the brain “unstick” traumatic memories and reprocess them
to challenge beliefs shaped by trauma and develop new coping strategies
to help clients reconnect with values and build a life beyond fear
to explore the deeper relational wounds and patterns shaped by early or chronic trauma
to build internal safety and trust in yourself again
for those managing intense emotional dysregulation or trauma-related interpersonal challenges
We also periodically offer Trauma Recovery Groups that create community around healing and provide support alongside individual therapy.
You are not “too much.” You are not damaged beyond repair. With the right kind of care, we will work through your trauma together, and life can feel safe, rich, and meaningful again.
