Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s at the root of emotional or behavioral challenges. Is it anxiety? Depression? Trauma? Something else entirely? Psychological testing can help provide clarity when the symptoms don’t tell the whole story.
At Tailwinds, we offer comprehensive psychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults to assess emotional, behavioral, and personality functioning. Our goal is to help clients understand themselves more fully, and give providers and families a clearer roadmap for treatment.
Psychological testing is an in-depth evaluation of emotional and behavioral functioning. It’s different from a therapy session or casual conversation — it involves structured tools, normed assessments, and expert clinical interpretation. Testing often includes:
Diagnostic clarification (e.g., mood, anxiety, trauma-related disorders)
Personality structure and coping patterns
Emotional regulation and distress tolerance
Behavior patterns at home, school, or work
Thought processes, beliefs, and interpersonal tendencies
Assessment of risk (when relevant)
Unlike neuropsychological testing, which focuses on brain-behavior relationships and cognitive function, psychological testing emphasizes emotional well-being, diagnostic clarity, and treatment planning. That said, we often integrate cognitive and executive function measures when needed.
We work closely with referring therapists, physicians, and schools to answer the right questions and provide meaningful recommendations.
Our psychological evaluations are tailored to the individual and the referral question. We may assess:
We use gold-standard measures and integrate multiple sources of data, including clinical interviews, self-report questionnaires, behavioral observations, and collateral input (when applicable).
Our psychological testing process is supportive, nonjudgmental, and designed to get you answers quickly.
We begin with a detailed interview to understand your concerns, history, and goals. For child or adolescent clients, we meet with caregivers and may gather additional context from teachers or therapists.
You or your child will complete a battery of tasks and questionnaires with a licensed psychologist. This usually takes place over 1–2 sessions, depending on age and the complexity of the referral question.
We analyze the data to identify patterns that support diagnostic clarity and inform treatment.
We review the results together, including any diagnoses, strengths, and areas for growth. You’ll leave with a better understanding of yourself or your child — and what comes next.
You’ll receive a comprehensive, written report with all findings, diagnoses (if applicable), and tailored recommendations for treatment, support, or services.
