Supporting Local Heroes

Affordable Therapy and Testing for Teachers, Police Officers, Firefighters, Paramedics, and First Responders

Teachers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and first responders carry an extraordinary amount for the communities they serve. They show up in classrooms, crisis calls, emergencies, long shifts, high-stress environments, and moments when other people need them most.

At Tailwinds Psychology, we believe the people who give so much to their communities deserve meaningful access to high-quality mental health care.

That is why we are proud to offer steeply discounted self-pay rates for Local Heroes: teachers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and first responders who may otherwise face barriers to getting the care they deserve.

Why We Created This Program

Many hardworking professionals in education, public safety, and emergency response are offered HMO insurance coverage without meaningful access to broader PPO networks. That can make it difficult to choose the right therapist, access specialized testing, or receive timely support outside a narrow insurance system. For people who spend their careers serving others, this can feel especially frustrating.

A teacher may spend all day supporting students’ emotional, behavioral, and learning needs, only to face long waits or limited options when they need support of their own. A police officer may carry years of accumulated stress but hesitate to seek help if the process feels confusing, expensive, or inaccessible. A firefighter or paramedic may respond to traumatic events repeatedly, while their own mental health care gets pushed to the bottom of the list.

This program is our way of changing that. By offering deeply reduced self-pay rates, Tailwinds provides a practical pathway to therapy and testing for the professionals who give their all to their communities.

Responsive Testing at a Deeply Reduced Rate

For many Local Heroes, therapy is only part of the picture. A complete neuropsychological evaluation can provide clarity about how a person thinks, learns, focuses, regulates emotions, processes stress, and functions across daily life.

For teachers, police officers, and first responders, testing may help clarify concerns such as ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, cognitive strengths and weaknesses, learning history, personality functioning, substance use concerns, or the effects of chronic stress.

Testing can be especially valuable when someone has spent years “pushing through” without fully understanding why certain parts of life feel harder than they should.

A comprehensive evaluation can help answer questions like:

At Tailwinds, testing for Local Heroes is designed to provide more than a diagnosis. Our evaluations are meant to offer clear, practical recommendations that clients can use in therapy, medical care, work planning, and daily life.

Therapy for Local Heroes

Teachers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and first responders do deeply meaningful work—but that work can also carry real emotional, physical, and mental demands. Whether you spend your days supporting students, responding to emergencies, protecting the public, managing crisis situations, or caring for people during some of the hardest moments of their lives, the impact can build over time.

Therapy can help Local Heroes address:

For Local Heroes, therapy is not about weakness. It is about having a confidential, supportive space to process what you carry, strengthen coping strategies, and protect your well-being over the long term.

Many Local Heroes are excellent at showing up for others. This program exists so someone can show up for you.

Comprehensive, Compassionate, Practical Care

Tailwinds offers care that is warm, respectful, and grounded in real life. We understand that teachers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and first responders may have unique concerns about privacy, stigma, job culture, and asking for help.

Our goal is to make the process as straightforward and supportive as possible.

This program is for clinical care and self-pay services. Evaluations are not fitness-for-duty evaluations, employment clearance evaluations, forensic evaluations, or court-ordered evaluations unless specifically discussed and arranged in advance.

Our Way of Saying Thank You

Supporting Local Heroes is more than a discount. It is one way Tailwinds puts our values into action.

Teachers help shape the next generation. Police officers help protect and respond during moments of uncertainty. Firefighters, paramedics, and first responders step into emergencies when others are most vulnerable.

These professions ask a great deal of those who choose them. Tailwinds is honored to offer a path to high-quality, affordable mental health care for those who serve our community so faithfully.
