Therapy That Meets You Where You’re At — Literally
Trauma can change the way a person feels, thinks, trusts, remembers, sleeps, relates, and moves through the world. Sometimes the impact is obvious, such as after an accident, assault, medical crisis, loss, or frightening event. Other times, trauma is quieter and more cumulative—shaped by childhood experiences, chronic invalidation, unsafe relationships, bullying, discrimination, family instability, or years of having to stay guarded.
At Tailwinds, trauma-informed therapy means we do not ask, “What is wrong with you?” We ask, “What happened, how did it affect you, and what kind of support would help you feel safer, stronger, and more fully yourself?”
Trauma therapy is not about forcing clients to revisit painful memories before they are ready. It is about creating a therapeutic relationship where safety, choice, pacing, collaboration, and respect guide the work.
Most of our therapy services are available through secure video sessions, including:
Individual therapy for adults, teens, and children (depending on age and developmental needs)
Couples counseling and parent consultation
Group therapy
Some components of psychological and neuropsychological assessments (such as intakes, interviews, and feedback sessions)
Note: For younger children or more complex evaluations, we may recommend a hybrid or in-person model to ensure quality of care.
Trauma-informed therapy begins with understanding, not rushing. Your therapist will work with you to identify what you are experiencing, what feels most disruptive, what you already do to cope, and what kind of treatment feels appropriate.
Some clients benefit from structured, evidence-based trauma treatments. Others need a slower, more relational approach focused on safety, trust, emotional awareness, and meaning-making. Many clients benefit from a combination of both. The goal is not to erase what happened. The goal is to help trauma take up less space in your present.
At Tailwinds, trauma-informed therapy may include:

Work with your therapist just like you would in person, with all the same warmth, skill, and professionalism you’d expect from a member of your Tailwinds team.
Trauma-informed therapy at Tailwinds is collaborative, respectful, and paced carefully. Your therapist will not push you to disclose details before you are ready or assume that one treatment model fits everyone.
Depending on your needs, therapy may be more structured, more relational, or a blend of approaches. Some clients benefit from Cognitive Processing Therapy or Prolonged Exposure Therapy. Others benefit from psychodynamic work, mindfulness, skills-based therapy, or other trauma-informed approaches.
Together, you and your therapist will decide what fits. You can expect:
Trauma can make the world feel smaller, relationships feel riskier, and the future feel harder to imagine. But healing is possible.
At Tailwinds, trauma-informed therapy offers a place to understand what happened, reduce the power of old fear, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that trauma may have pushed out of reach.
You do not have to tell the whole story all at once. You do not have to know exactly what kind of therapy you need. You only have to begin with a therapist who will help you move forward carefully, respectfully, and at a pace that makes sense.
