Therapy That Meets You Where You’re At — Literally
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy designed to help people recover from trauma, anxiety, and distressing life events. Unlike talk therapy, EMDR doesn’t require you to retell your story in detail. Instead, it helps your brain “reprocess” painful memories so they no longer feel as overwhelming, intrusive, or emotionally charged.
At Tailwinds, we use EMDR to support healing in a safe, structured, and client-centered way so you can move forward with more peace and less pain.
Most of our therapy services are available through secure video sessions, including:
Individual therapy for adults, teens, and children (depending on age and developmental needs)
Couples counseling and parent consultation
Group therapy
Some components of psychological and neuropsychological assessments (such as intakes, interviews, and feedback sessions)
Note: For younger children or more complex evaluations, we may recommend a hybrid or in-person model to ensure quality of care.
EMDR is based on the idea that trauma and unresolved experiences can get “stuck” in the brain. These memories can continue to trigger intense emotions, physical sensations, or beliefs about yourself (like “I’m not safe” or “I’m not good enough”).
During EMDR, your therapist helps you access those memories while using bilateral stimulation, often in the form of guided eye movements or tapping. This process allows the brain to reprocess the experience, reduce distress, and integrate new, more adaptive beliefs.
You remain in control throughout the session, and your therapist guides the process gently and respectfully.

Work with your therapist just like you would in person, with all the same warmth, skill, and professionalism you’d expect from a member of your Tailwinds team.
EMDR typically begins with preparation: building trust, identifying your goals, and helping you learn grounding techniques. Once you’re ready, you and your therapist will begin reprocessing targeted memories using bilateral stimulation.
Sessions move at your pace. You don’t need to talk in detail about what happened. Your therapist helps guide the process, while your brain does the healing work.
EMDR is a strong fit if you’ve experienced something distressing that still feels “alive” inside you, even if it happened years ago. It’s also effective for people who’ve tried traditional therapy and felt stuck.
You don’t have to relive your trauma to recover from it. EMDR offers a new path to healing — one that’s structured, safe, and proven to work.
