Postdoctoral Testing Fellow

Tailwinds Psychology is a growing group psychology practice serving individuals and families throughout the western suburbs of Chicago. Our mission is to provide responsive, high-quality, and evidence-based psychological care with a team-oriented and values-driven approach. We are seeking a dedicated and motivated postdoctoral fellow in psychological assessment to join our team and grow with us.

Position Summary

We are hiring full-time postdoctoral fellows to conduct comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluations for clients across the lifespan. Common referral concerns include depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, PTSD, and personality disorders. Evaluations are frequently used to determine eligibility for academic accommodations, workplace supports, and state or federal benefits.

Postdoctoral fellows will receive robust supervision by licensed psychologists and will have the opportunity to refine their clinical assessment skills while working in a collaborative, supportive setting.

Postdoctoral responsibilities include:

  • Administering, scoring, and interpreting standardized assessments related to cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning
  • Writing integrated, high-quality psychological evaluation reports
  • Delivering feedback to clients and families in a compassionate and clinically informative manner

All postdoctoral fellows receive full administrative support, including scheduling, billing, credentialing, marketing, and AI-enabled documentation tools (with client consent), so they can focus on clinical growth.

Compensation

At Tailwinds, we uphold fair employment practices and strong developmental support for postdoctoral fellows. All postdoctoral fellows are W-2 employees actively working toward licensure and are eligible for benefits. Compensation is based on licensure status and tenure with the practice and is calculated per billable clinical hour (i.e., hours billed to the client or insurance, including intake, test administration, scoring, interpretation, report writing, and feedback).

Full-time fellows are expected to complete a minimum of two full psychological assessments per week.

Compensation Structure

Postdoctoral Testing Fellows:

  • Year 1: $73,000$105,000
  • Year 2: $78,000$110,000
  • Year 4+: $85,000$120,000

Earnings range reflects conservative estimate of gross annual earnings for a postdoctoral fellow completing an average of 2–3 testing evaluations per week.

Hiring Bonus

At Tailwinds, we respect and defend the legal right of clients to choose their mental healthcare provider, including the decision to follow their psychologist to a new practice. All new clinical hires who bring a caseload with them are eligible to receive a one-time bonus of $50 per established client.

No Non-Competes

At Tailwinds, we believe postdoctoral fellows should control their careers, and clients should control their care. Contracts that force departing postdoctoral fellows to practice beyond a certain “radius” restrict access to mental wellness for local clients who wish to continue to work with their postdoctoral fellow, many of whom belong to protected client populations such as veterans and first responders. When it comes to mental healthcare, non-compete clauses aren’t just unethical; they’re illegal and unenforceable under Illinois law.

Tailwinds prides itself on the value it creates for clients and isn’t afraid of healthy competition. That’s why we don’t include non-compete clauses in any of our contracts.
