Behavioral Health Billing Specialist

We are a mission-driven private psychology practice providing fast, high-quality mental health services, including therapy, testing, and psychiatry. As we grow, we are seeking a Behavioral Health Billing Specialist to help us deliver seamless, accurate, and ethical billing operations that support excellent client care and sustainable practice growth.

Role Overview

As our Billing Specialist, you’ll take charge of the full revenue cycle—from insurance verification through claims submission, payment posting, and denial resolution. Your work will help ensure we remain compliant, efficient, and trusted by our clients and payers alike.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify client insurance benefits and eligibility.
  • Provide clients with good-faith estimates/estimates of benefits.
  • Submit accurate insurance claims and manage billing cycles.
  • Post payments and reconcile client accounts.
  • Follow up on claim denials and underpayments, and resolve billing issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, HIPAA, and practice policies.
  • Facilitate credentialling of clinical staff.
  • Assist in generating financial reports and identifying billing trends.
  • Follow up on client responsibilities, including communicating ethically and respectfully with clients about account balances and billing questions.

Qualifications

Required:

  • At least 2 years of experience in medical, behavioral, or mental health billing.
  • Strong knowledge of CPT codes, insurance plan structures, and EOBs.
  • Familiarity with electronic billing platforms and clearinghouses (e.g., Claim.MD).
  • High attention to detail, integrity, and discretion.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in private practice or group mental health settings.
  • Familiarity with billing tools such as those provided by JaneApp, Claim.MD, SimplePractice, TherapyNotes, and/or AdvancedMD.

Base Salary Scaling

This role offers a competitive base salary starting at $50,000/year, with structured increases tied to billing volume. Base pay will grow to $60,000/year as transaction thresholds are met over time. This structure is designed to reward both consistency and high performance while providing room for professional and financial growth within the practice.

Bonus

The Behavioral Health Billing Specialist is eligible to receive a quarterly bonus of $1,000 for each full calendar quarter during which the practice’s client account balances are maintained at or above 99% resolved within 30 days of billing.
